Description

PROPERTIES:
URAID effervescent granules Is a multi-functional formulation combining three active ingredients which act in harmony with multiple complementary activities for the management of acute attacks of gout and for promoting urinary excretion of uric acid. Piperazine acts by dissolving uric acid thus preventing its deposition in the urinary tract. This property ensures the effectiveness of URAID in treatment of gout and urinary urate lithiasis. Atropine sulfate is an antispasmodic which relieves urethric spasms accompanying urinary washout of urate crystals. URAID also contains colchicine that provides prompt relief of pain in gouty attacks. In addition, URAID causes an increase in urine pH and is well tolerated by all patients. All these properties ensure effective relief of acute attacks of gout and facilitate rapid excretion of urates in a more soluble form.
PHARMACOKINETICS:
Piperazine is readily absorbed from gastrointestinal tract and is excreted in the urine within 24 hours partly as metabolites.
Atropine is readily absorbed from gastro intestinal tract.
It is rapidly cleared from blood and distributed throughout the body it crosses blood brain barrier. It is incompletely metabolized in the liver and is excreted in the urine as unchanged drug and metabolites.
Peak plasma concentrations of colchicines are reached within 2 hours of oral use. Colchicine is partially deacetylated in the liver and the unchanged drug and its metabolites are excreted in the bile and under intestinal reasport.
Most of the drug in excreted in feaces but 10 to 20% excreted in urine.
