Description

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
PHARMACODYNAMICS:
RENAL-S is a complementary combination of three active ingredients which ensures superior efficacy in the treatment of urinary tract infection and spasm, and enhances urinary excretion of uric acid. Hexamine, the first ingredient in RENAL-S, is a urinary tract antiseptic which is slowly hydrolyzed to formaldehyde which possesses antibacterial activity against most common urinary tract pathogens including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Khellin, the second ingredient in RENAL-S, is a natural ingredient which acts directly as a relaxant of urinary tract smooth muscles thus relieving spasms and colics associated with urinary disorders. Piperazine citrate, the third ingredient in RENAL-S, adds to the benefits of RENAL-S as it helps dissolve uric acid and urate crystals thus preventing their deposition in the urinary tract, ensuring the effectiveness of RENAL-S in the treatment of renal disorders associated with urate calculi.
PHARMACOKINETICS:
Following oral administration, the active ingredients of RENAL-S are readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. They are widely distributed into body fluids and excreted from the body mainly in the urine.
INDICATIONS:
RENAL-S is an adjuvant treatment in lower chronic urinary tract infections and urinary stones.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
The contents of one or two sachets are dissolved in half a glass of water and taken during effervescence, three times daily or as directed by the physician.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to any component of the product, severe impairment of renal or hepatic function.
SIDE EFFECTS:
RENAL-S is well tolerated. Rarely, mild side effects, e.g. nausea, abdominal discomfort and rashes may occur.
Khellin can cause increase liver enzymes and liver disfunction in some patients.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Some of the rarely used sulphonamides, e.g. sulpamethizole and sulphathiazole, may form insoluble precipitates with the liberated formaldehyde in the urinary tract, so concomitant use of RENAL-S with these sulfonamides is not recommended.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
As with other preparations containing hexamine, the product may be used during pregnancy and lactation only if it is strictly indicated and as recommended by the physician.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS:
It is recommended not to exceed the dose to prevent the occurrence of nervous system side effects.
OVERDOSAGE AND TREATMENT:
Not applicable to sachet formulations with effervescent granules.
PACKING:
A carton box containing 12 laminated aluminium foil sachets (5 g each) with a pamphlet.
STORAGE:
Keep at a temperature not exceeding 30oC, in a dry place.
Keep out of reach of children.
